It was already a crazy week. Monday I had my doctor appointment and the doctor said I could come back that Thursday to have my membranes stripped. I was really hoping to not have to be induced like I was with both of the girls.
Dance class monday night. Exhausted.
Kids up for school Tuesday morning. Still exhausted.
Brian called from work Tuesday saying that he would have to work late and I would have to take all 3 of the kids to Malakai’s soccer practice. Even more exhausted just thinking about it. Mcdonald’s for dinner.
I made it to soccer practice on time and lugged chairs and kids and food to the field. Between eating that extremely nutritious food I fed him and the heat, Malakai got sick, on the field. So, 20 minutes into the hour long practice and we’re headed back home. Brian bathed him while I ran to the store to get ginger ale. My little boy likes ginger ale when his tummy is upset and as exhausted as I still was, I’m his mommy before I’m my own exhausted self. (I also grabbed some filtered water for the Keurig.)
All kids were in bed and asleep by 9:00, such a weird occurrence that Brian and I were both going to be able to get some good rest. Hahaha.
Fast forward to one of my many nightly trips to the bathroom to empty my ever shrinking bladded.
Here is the TMI (Too much information) part so just know that my water broke and we went to the hospital and had the baby if you want to stop now.
So after I peed, I went to stand up. Only I was still peeing. So I sat back down.
I thought to myself “Hmm, could my water have broke?”.
So I did what I think was only natural, I put my hand on my vajayjay to see if anything was coming out. It was a little wet but at 4 in the morning, I was too tired to think it was anything other than pee. So, I stood up and the flood gates opened and ran down my legs. I was wide awake at that point. I grabbed the hand towel and put it between my legs and hobbled back to our room. (Of course this was the time I used the kids’ bathroom after I checked on them.)
I heard Brian moan or mumble so I said “Are you awake?”.
He moaned again. I said “It’s time to get up.”
He then looked at his clock and said “It’s four o’clock, I have two more hours.”
I said “My water broke.”
He super-hero style, sprang from our bed and went into full awake, crazy dad mode along with my crazy mom mode.
In 40 minutes we changed bed sheets (kid accident….of course), threw sheets into the washer, got all the kids up, dressed and fed. I packed their suitcase for grandma’s house and a bag of snacks for them at the hospital. Called the OB. Car packed all three kids and their teddy bears situated in the car and we were off. On the way we were talking about if we thought boy or girl and how weird it was to not have a name picked out.
Checked into the hospital at around 5:00 am. They checked me to see if my water bag had in fact broken.
Yep, it had.
Admitted (officially) and poked and prodded.
I was contracting on my own just not consistently. But geez, they were strong. But I couldn’t get the epidural until after my blood they had drawn was checked for a platelet count. (I didn’t want it yet anyway because I know it can tend to slow things down or even stall labor.)
Got the news that I could get the epidural and then was checked and at 7cm. So it was now or never. Got the epidural.
At 11:20 am I felt pressure. My incredible nurse Jaime said “Do you want to try to push?”
I said “Yes”
I pushed just a little and she said “Stop, ‘her’ head is right there”. (She was thinking girl.)
She went and told the doctor. He came in and while he was ready I had a really strong contraction that I couldn’t push on because there wasn’t anyone there to catch a baby.
The next contraction I pushed. The baby’s head came out on the first 10 second push, shoulders on the next 10 second push and the rest of the baby just came out.
